A former gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 general election in Oyo State, Dr. Olusola Ayandele, has slammed the Peoples Democratic Party over an alleged claims of victory in Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency in the last Saturday election held across the country.
The independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced that there was going to be a rerun in some polling units in the Federal Constituency to determine the winner of the seat between the candidates of the APC and the PDP following the cancellation of results in six polling units across the two local government areas in the Constituency.
In a statement issued today and made available to journalists in Ibadan, Dr. Ayandele described reports in some quarters the all the winners of the 14 House of Representatives seats in the state had been determined as malicious falsehood “because INEC had declared the elections held in Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency as inconclusive.
“In the tension-soaked elections held on Saturday across the country, INEC declared the results of Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency as inconclusive and the reason advanced for this decision was clearly stated by the electoral body. Although, we have our reservation about the conduct of the whole exercise in our Constituency we are still hopeful that INEC would get it right in the end.
“To set the record straight, there is no iota of truth in the orchestrated reports which claimed that the candidate of the PDP had been declared the winner. Those peddling the wicked rumour are only being mischievous as the whole world is very much aware of the evil plot to mislead the public.
“In the same vein, we urge INEC to urgently come up with a transparent blueprint on how it plans to correct the anomalies experienced in Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency last Saturday with a view to restoring the confidence of the constituents on the process. This is imperative as only the conduct of free, fair and credible election in the Constituency will be a welcome development.
“However, we are appealing to the good people of Ibarapa to remain calm and be prepared to participate in a better process that would facilitate the emergence of their preferred candidate, Hon. Ademola Ojo of the APC, who has all it takes to do well as our next representative in the Green Chamber.
“We also use this opportunity to implore the good people of Oyo State not to fall for the antics of some mischievous elements who are bent on truncating the process of restoration, reformation and transformation. Chief Adebayo Adelabu remains the best for our dear State and he should be voted in to succeed Senator Abiola Ajimobi who has done well in the last eight years.” Ayandele stated.
