There is anxiety in Oyo State as the final list of candidates for governorship, state assembly and FCT area council elections will be published on today, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said.
Today, members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC and Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, would know who their governorship candidates are.
Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the list will be published in all the State offices nationwide and the Commission’s website.
Yakubu spoke yesterday in Abuja at the Swearing-in of a new Resident Electoral Commission (REC) Elder Monday Udo Tom from Akwa Ibom State.
The ADC, OYO INSIGHT recalled, had submitted the name of its national secretary, Dr Dele Ajadi, who hails from Oyo town, as its tentative candidate when it couldn’t resolve the crisis that rocked the party during the governorship primaries. Twelve of the governorship aspirants who felt shortchanged after Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin’s nomination, later approached the court.
ZLP, this newspaper learnt, had filled Mr Nureni Akanbi, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja’s ex-commissioner, as its candidate before Barr. Sharafadeen Alli, one of the aggrieved ADC aspirants joined the party.
Also, members of the Action Democratic Party, ADC, would also be waiting to know their house of assembly candidates as the party is embroiled in leadership squabbles.
