The Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states, Alhaji Daud Akinola, has promised to support traders at Araromi market, Agodi gate, Ibadan, with N5 million.
De-damak, as he widely known, made the promise when he visited the market to observe the level of damage and commiserate with traders after a recent fire inferno that ravaged the market.
Speaking during the visit, the Aare Musulumi explained that his close ties with the market, right from his days as a spare parts trader at Gbagi market in Ibadan, makes the tragic incident personal to him because “the market is his home.”
OYOINSIGHT recalls that the auto spare parts market in Agodi was razed by fire in the early hours of Saturday April 3, 2021.
The inferno was said to have started from the tyre section of the market before it spread to other parts of the market.
Speaking further, the Aare acknowledged the efforts of the Seyi Makinde led administration since the incident occurred also promised to meet the Governor to solicit for more support for traders and collaborate with him to chart a part to prevent the reoccurrence of such incident.
“As a citizen of Oyo State and a spiritual leader, anything that affects any Nigerian is under my domain,” he said.
“Apart from that as a businessman, I have to solicit help for this people from the government, not only Oyo State government but any Governor.”
Speaking further, he urged traders to reflect on the incident and be grateful to Almighty God that the incident occurred at a time when they were not in the market.
“It is just a trial; it occurred in the midnight because God love us. I implore you all to stand by God.
“I know how hardworking traders here are and the importance of this market to the economy of the country but we must thank God. From now all, we will begin to receive good news by God’s grace,” he noted.
The spiritual leader was accompanied on the visit to the market by various stakeholders in the state including representatives of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Iyaloja of Ibadanland, among others.
