Indigenes of Ibarapa region of Oyo State have written Governor Seyi Makinde to declare their support for the ongoing process for the selection of the next Rector of the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora.

The indigenes, under the aegis of the Council of Ibarapa Indigenes, in a statement sighted by OYOINSIGHT on Wednesday evening, noted the call for the cancellation by some individuals is a ‘search for an unmissing child’.

The statement read: “Prior to the selection of two applicants to be screened, in consideration for the substantial position of the Rector of Oyo state college of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH),
Igboora. Our attention has been drawn to a petition purportedly written by some set of people,
calling for retrieval of the decision reached by the governing council. As contained in their letter
dated January 18th, 2021, alleging the process that ushered in the selection (if two applicants for
screening) as compromised with irregularities and nepotism. It is so unfortunate that the set of
people behind the petition have been overshadowed by the storms of greediness, self-centeredness and unexplained confusion.

“Having received various applications with documents attached from all applicants, the governing
council has done the best in form of putting up essential requisites for the position advertised.

“They have also carefully studied the applications and made their unanimous decision thereafter.
It is indeed worrisome and disappointing that these sets of people accusing the board with
various allegations are not only confused but lack respect for simple, due and transparent process.

“We wonder why they failed ( in the first instance) to include their letter of promotion to the
professorship rank in their documents submitted. This implies that they do not comply with the
criteria stated in the adverts for the position, as highlighted by the council, or they feel it is not
necessary due to their egocentric attitudes.

“We are more highly disappointed in the commissioner for education, science and technology Mr
Olasunkanmi Olaleye, for being part of the process that is passing ridiculous remarks on the
rigorous efforts of the governing council, despite their gestures that ensured transparency,
fairness and competency in the fix of things. For our commissioner for education, who has not
consider it necessary to intervene and influence the needs of OYSCATECH over the years, when
issues of accreditation, reimbursement of funds, among other challenges facing the institution
emerged. Why is he now more concerned on who becomes the rector or what process bring
him/her in?. Apparently, the commissioner for education is having a hidden agenda of imposing
or influencing someone who might not even credible as the next rector of the institution.

“If this is untrue, he will not be the frontier to the call for dissolution of every process tediously
engaged by the governing council, before this process got to this stage.

“We are so infuriated with the embarrassment and ridicule being vested on the duly appointed
governing council of OYSCATECH by the state’s commissioner for education. We have been
notified that he has been doing everything possible to impose and compel the governor to accept
an Ogbomosho man as the rector. That is why he has been rubbishing the collective of the
governing council for the sake of his greed, barbaric, self-centered and callousness for popularity
at all costs and by all means. No wonder, he is calling for dissolution of the governing board as if
he is their paymaster.

“We want the commissioner for education to know that he was appointed same way the governing
council board was appointed. And the governor sees the best in them before appointing them. It
will now be a highly assaulting manner for Mr Olaleye to see the governing council as unfit and
incapable for the job given to them, if nothing is kept in his cupboard against the personalities of
the OYSCATECH governing council members. In fact, we want the governor to re-examine the
credibility of our commissioner for education, and beware of his unsaturated quest for
checkmating and condemnation of duly established agencies and organs of government. So, he
will not end up ridiculing the good name brought by the adventures of Governor Seyi Makinde’s
era of great and immeasurable transformations.

“We strongly believe that the governing council of OYSCATECH is made up of people who will
never compromise nor betray the trust of the government. We are hereby using this medium to
pass our vote of confidence on them.
We also want to use this medium to call for dismissal of the petition allegedly framed by the
commissioner for education and his conspiracy team against the governing board of
OYSCATECH. We also want the governor to ensure that he snub every distractions and
humiliations which people like our commissioner for education, science and technology might be
plugging on his decisions, to avoid misdirection and gridlocks on our targets for a better Oyo
State.”
