Senator Olufemi Lanlehin (SOLAN), has charged Engr Seyi Makinde to remain pro-people in the discharge of his duties as Oyo State’s new helmsman.
Lanlehin who congratulated Makinde, on his inauguration today, as the 18th governor of Oyo State, beginning from Col David Jemibewon’s stint as the state’s first governor, after its creation from the defunct Western Region in March, 1976, reminded Makinde of his lofty campaign promises, urging him to ensure their fulfilment in the interest of peace, progress and prosperity.
Lanlehin, Oyo State leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while commending Makinde for his doggedness, focus and resilience in the pursuit of his governorship ambition, maintained that if he applies the same zeal and tenacity to his latest assignment, success cannot but be guaranteed.
Advising Makinde to hit the ground running, considering the enormity of challenges besetting the state, Lanlehin urged him to be unbiased, fair and just in decisionmaking, now that the buck stops at his table.
Lanlehin, who urged the new Oyo State governor to widen his net in the selection of his general cabinet, avowed that with the plurality of talents that abounds not only in Engr Makinde’s political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but also in the other coalition parties, the governor has a star-studded pool to assist him deliver the goods to the good people of Oyo State.
Senator Lanlehin who assured Engr Makinde of cooperation, advice and partnership when the need arises, implored him to live true to his monicker, “Omi Tuntun”, by bringing to governance, fresh impetus, fresh ideas and fresh thinking, whose thrust will be centred on bettering the lives of the very good people of Oyo State.
While imploring Engr Makinde to thread cautiously, beware of praise singers and sycophants, and decidedly avoid the arrogance of power, which were the archilles heels of some previous occupiers of the exalted position, Senator Lanlehin wishes Oyo State’s brand new governor, good health, wisdom and understanding, to steer successfully, the ship of a heterogeneous, politically conscious and complex state like Oyo.
