Hundreds of students in secondary schools across Ibadan, Nigeria would be competing at the FAME Secondary School Leadership Competition 2023.
The FAME Secondary School Competition promotes leadership education while fostering healthy academic rivalry among Senior Secondary Schools. The programme which is created by The FAME Foundation a leading not-for-profit organization based in Ibadan, Nigeria that is focused on Leadership and skills-based education, will engage senior secondary school students across Ibadan, Nigeria through quizzes, debates, and spelling bees.
Speaking on the initiative, Paul-Mark Eroma FAME’s Programmes Coordinator, commented: “Collectively, we all have a responsibility to help develop the next generation of leaders. From our experience working with students in secondary schools, we have learned that most of them struggle with low self-esteem, lack of confidence, poor communication skills, poor reading culture, slow-thinking skills, and a lack of exposure to platforms that can enable them to compete with their peers in the bid to foster academic interrelations.”
Teams will consist of a maximum of 4 individuals from the same school. The teams will advance through preliminary stages and the final five teams will compete in the Grand finale on Children’s Day May 27th.
Commenting, Raphael Stephen, Executive Director, of The FAME Foundation said: “Fashioned and Made for Excellence Foundation has intentionally created this initiative to give secondary school students a platform where they can learn practical leadership skills, develop self-confidence, communication, and public speaking skills, quick-thinking and the ability to thrive under pressure while fostering healthy academic rivalry among senior secondary schools. Through this program, we can unlock the boundless potential of the next generation of leaders.”
FAME currently works in nearly 200 secondary schools across Nigeria and its vision for 2030 is to measurably impact 1 million students, and reach thousands of students more broadly, across Nigeria each year.
FAME believes that through deliberate investments in students in secondary schools, we can improve the public secondary education system and contribute to the end of our leadership crisis in our lifetime.
FAME has built a record of accomplishment over the past five years by delivering high-quality leadership programmes to secondary school students across Nigeria and recently hit a major milestone of 29,000 students reach at the end of the 2022 year.
