Chairman of Ogbomoso North local government, Hon. Olamiju Alao-Akala has mocked his former party, saying that the leadership of the party is frustrated.
OYO INSIGHT had reported how 4 of the councillors in the council area and later, the APC announced Olamiju’s suspension as chairman as well as member of the party.
The APC suspended Olamiju alongside 7 councilors-Oladele Sunday Abiodun, Alagbe Ayandunmade Titi Mary, Olawunmi Felicia Olutayo and Adekunle Jonathan while those suspended from Ogbomoso Central Local Council Development Authority are Akande Isiah Ranti, Olabode Abiola Amos, Salaudeen Muyideen Mohammed and Muhammed Yesufu Nurudeen.
The suspension came after Olamiju announced his preference for the governorship ambition of his father, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, of the Action Democratic Party.
This newspaper recalled that Olamiju won election into the council last year under the All Progressives Congress, when his father and the incumbent governor, Abiola Ajimobi, were still in good terms.
The senior Alao-Akala fell out with Ajimobi before the APC primary that eventually produced Bayo Adelabu as the party’s governorship candidate. Alao-Akala eventually picked the governorship ticket of the ADP.
Olamiju, however, stayed put in the APC; and last Thursday, he officially declared for his father.
His suspension was contained in a letter dated Friday, February 15, 2019, and signed by four councilors – Adebowale Oladunmoni, Zakariyau Kabiru, Adisa Kingsley and Busari Adesina.
The letter read, “Take notice that we, the undersigned councillors in the Ogbomoso Local Government Area, hereby passed a resolution suspending you (Alao-Akala) from the office as the executive chairman of the Ogbomoso North Local Government Area for gross misconduct.”
The Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Dr Abdulazeez Olatunde, confirmed the suspension of Olamiju on Tuesday.
He said the party had also suspended him because he had dumped the APC to join the ADP.
Olatunde said, “We have suspended him. He left the party and went to the ADP. The councillors also took the right decision by suspending him.”
But reacting, Olamiju, in a statement said, “My attention has also been drawn to the laughable statement made by the Chairman of APC in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area, Mr. Bukola Badmus, wherein he purportedly suspended me from the party, APC, even when I have since left the APC for a truly progressive party, Action Democratic Party (ADP). This is not only laughable but a pointer to the degree of frustration and looming failures that seem to stare APC in the face in the coming elections. I am already out of that sinking ship, I wish them well,” Olamiju stated.
