Prince Akeem Adeyemi, who is representing Oyo federal constituency for the second term, has revealed why he could not hold back tears when fifth-term member, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, was announced speaker of the House of Representatives.
OYO INSIGHT recalls that Gbajabiamila defeated Bago yesterday in the leadership election.
According to Skimeh, as the former chairman of Atiba local government is fondly called, he equally wept in 2015 when Gbajabiamila lost the speakership position to Yakubu Dogara.
Why I Wept

In 2015, when Hon Femi Gbajabiamila narrowly lost the speakership election to Hon Yakubu Dogara, I wept. I wept for Nigeria. I wept for Yorubaland. I wept that the most experienced man in the act of lawmaking lost. I wept that some colleagues made a wrong choice. I wept for the triumph of vices over virtues. I wept for the suppression of uprightness, party loyalty and sincere commitment to the ethos of democracy for betrayal, backstabbing and flagrant disregard for party directives.

In the course of execution of our statutory legislative duties, some of us, who did not toe the line of indiscipline, were maligned, humiliated and persecuted for our patriotic stand. Our rights were denied. Our privileges were usurped. Our opportunities were shortchanged. Our voices were subdued to the lowest decibel. Sadly, for the fear of suspension, we dared not complain. We endured and patiently accepted our fate; in spite of the fact that we were in the ruling party and colleagues.

Yesterday, when Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila won as the speaker of the 9th Assembly, I wept. I wept that the most experienced man in the act of lawmaking won. I wept for the prevailment of patience, resilience and fervent commitment to collective good over perfidy, selfishness, treachery, unreliability and Punic faith. Hon Gbaja won gallantly! To God be the glory.

Finally, yesterday, when I came to realise that life is like a pendulum – it swings to and fro – that nothing is permanent; that integrity and good name surpass material amassment; that tough time never lasts but tough people do and that whosoever puts his trust in God will succeed, I wept!

Congratulations, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila!
Congratulations, President Buhari.
Congratulations, Asiwaju Tinubu.
Congratulations, APC.
Congratulations, Nigeria!

Signed:
Hon (Prince) Adeyemi Akeem Skimeh,
Oyo Federal Constituency,
Southwest Coordinator,
Gbajabiamila For Speaker
