Prince Akeem Adeyemi, lawmaker representing AFIJIO, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West federal constituency, otherwise known as Oyo federal constituency, in the house of representatives, ha facilitated the provision of information and communication technology, ICT, centre to Saint Bernadine’s Grammar School, Oyo and 109 E-pads to the University of Ibadan.
This was after the former council boss had facilitated ICT centres to Ojongbodu Grammar School, Abiodun Atiba Memorial Secondary School, Olivet Baptist High School, Ansarudeen Grammar School Opapa, Oranyan Grammar School and Methodist Secondary School, Fiditi.
The former council boss had also facilitated free internet services to Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Federal College of Education Special, Federal School of Survey and the State General Hospital, Oyo.
According to the Oyo prince, “Long before now, I knew that ICT is the future. Being the chairman of the house committee on communications is just an added advantage. Apart from what I have facilitated for my constituents and constituency, i think it is good to assist nearby tertiary institutions. And there is no doubt that the University of Ibadan needs it. It is just less than 30 minutes drive from my constituency and bring a regular visitor to UI, I know we have appreciable numbers of students of Oyo origin in the institution. So it is not out of place. I will not stop at that. Anything that will benefit humanity and especially my constituents will be vigorously pursued.”
The provision of 100 E-pads, OYOINSIGHT.COM understands, is under the commission’s Advanced Digital Economy and Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme.
The Advanced Digital Awareness Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI) is aimed at bridging the digital gaps that exists in academia by providing computers, other ICT equipment and the necessary facilities to provide lecturers, staff and students with the requisite ICT skills essential for the 21st Century.
The Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, supplies computers and other ICT equipment, including scanners and printers to the benefitting institutions.
This includes also the provision of suites of E-learning applications for academics and students in tertiary institutions across the country.
The objective of this programme is, specifically, to provide the tools that will enable familiarity and confidence in the utilization of ICT in teaching, research and learning.
Since its introduction in 2008, more than 300 institutions of higher learning have been beneficiaries of the programme.
