The speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olagunju Ojo, has explained the reasons he didn’t defect with former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala to the Action Democratic Party, ADP.
Ojo, who was jolted by last week’s defection of Alao-Ajala’s son and chairman of Ogbomoso North local government, Hon. Olamiju Alao-Akala, to the ADP, currently represents Oriire State constituency.
OYO INSIGHT recalled that Governor Abiola Ajimobi had asked Alao-Akala to fill the speakership position, which became vacant with the death of Barr. Adeyemo Michael Adesina died, with any of his loyalists from Ogbomosoland. Ojo was later considered for the position
However, the 68-year old speaker pointed out that he never betrayed Alao-Akala for he did not invite him or brief him for once when he decided to leave All Progressives Congress, APC, for ADP.
Ojo, who was a former deputy speaker between 1999 and 2003, had returned to the Assembly in 2015 under the platform of the Labour Party, LP, where Alao-Akala contested the governorship election.
Alao-Akala had, on a radio programme, alleged that Ojo and others betrayed him by not joining the ADP with him.
This is just as he explained further that former Governor Alao-Akala even congratulated him when he was given the ticket to contest for the Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/ Oriire seat of the House of Representatives Election under the APC.
