The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State Engr Seyi Makinde has accused the state government of being careless with the health of the people in the on going road construction in some parts of Ibadan.
In a statement signed by his campaign spokesman Prince Dotun Oyelade, Engr Makinde said that the persistent thick dust that envelopes areas like Iwo road, Idi ape, Basorun and Akobo areas are posing health hazard to the residents.
According to the statement, the constant deluge of poisonous dust in the past four months has seen many people hospitalised especially children and the aged who are most vulnerable.
The PDP candidate said that the hallmark of the present government is that it is more concerned about scoring political points at the risk of the people’s health and welfare.
“How can you, in clear conscience, wittingly expose the poor to such fatal hazard yet pretend that you are working for them?. No!, you’re not working for them, you’re killing them,” Makinde lamented.
He asked government to speed up the work and water the surface to reduce the poisoned dust.
He reiterated that the priority of his administration will be the construction of economic roads across the state instead of concentration on a few urban roads.
