Kannakanna na eye iga, ija sese beere!
An average Oyo man is a calculative and strategic warrior. We are all from Oranmiyan, the great warrior, who was the first Alaafin of Oyo.
Right from time immemorial, Oyo does not condone bullying and intimidation. They can fight to the last drop of blood to resist any attempt by an exuberant invader that wants to take them for a ride.
Sango, the 3rd Alaafin of Oyo, took over from his brother, Alaafin Ajaka, the eldest son of Oranmiyan, the son of Okanbi, the son of Oduduwa, when he was becoming too subtle and weak to confront external aggression. Sango fought his enemies to a standstill.
Ajaka later took over after the demise of Sango and became so fierce and ferocious. That is the reason every Alaafin is combative. This is what we inherited from our forefathers. We are battle ready.
Alaafin is more than fire. Oyo is a confluence of fire and thunder. As fire is burning you, thunder will be striking, simultaneously. I am not bragging. I am just saying the truth to those who are willing to know.
Governor Seyi Makinde should not dare fire, let alone a raging thunder. It is copiously documented in history that no one fights Alaafin and win. You may think you have won, but forget it, the battle will never be over.
Those who are versed in Yoruba traditional and political history will never doubt my assertion. What happened between Alaafin Adeniran Adeyemi II, the father of Alaafin Olayiwola Adeyemi III, and Chief Bode Thomas is enough a good lesson.
If that is too far; let me come to a very recent one. What happened between Alaafin Olayiwola Adeyemi III and Chief Adebayo Alao Akala is another reason why Seyi Makinde should watch his attitude towards the Alaafin of Oyo.
What did Alaafin do wrong? What is Alaafin’s offence? What is the crime of the Oyo people; that Seyi Makinde is revenging? Have we (Oyos) not assisted him to realise him ambition? After all, in all the 8 local government areas and LCDAs, he won. Oyo people voted for him. We showed him enormous love? What exactly is our (including the Alaafin of Oyo) offence?
Let me summarise what really happened between Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo Alaafin:
Oyo Town is known to be a peaceful and calm place. However, some years back, youths in the Town, who are suppose to be future leaders, turned to gangsters and were seen in different areas of Oyo causing chaos and pandemonium. Also, the spate criminality was gaining momentum.
To curb this negative trend, the Alaafin wrote a letter to the Inspector General of Police in December 2019, requesting 1 out of the 6 additional Mobile Police Squadron that were set to be created across the nation. His letter was acknowledged and his request was given a favourable consideration and, eventually, it was granted.
As the Chief Security Officer of the State, the Inspector General wrote a letter to the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, intimating him on the new development. And the shocker! Seyi Makinde used his influence to alter the requests made by the Alaafin of Oyo and relocated it to where they did not request for it.
To be sincere, if you are in the position of Alaafin and the Oyos, will you keep mute on this?
