There now seems to be a strain in the relationship between the Oyo State Government and popular Fuji musician, Taiye Currency, following the controversy surrounding his performance at the last Olubadan coronation.
This is because the recently concluded Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State was held without the Fuji star performing.
Taiye Currency, who is well known as the official performer at state functions, including previous PDP congresses, was notably absent.
Instead, Juju musician Sammy T was invited to entertain the audience, breaking the tradition of the Fuji icon’s regular presence at such events.
The development has triggered suspicion from people, many of whom had criticized Taiye Currency’s choice of lyrics at the Olubadan coronation, describing them as inappropriate for the nature of the event and the caliber of dignitaries in attendance.
Observers also say the decision may reflect a new approach to the selection of performers at high-profile state and party events.
