The chairman of Akinyele South local council development area, LCDA, Hon. Olumide Yaqub Alli, who was caught on camera slapping a man simply identified as Taiwo, has explained his own side of the story.
The ugly incident, it was learnt, occurred at St Mattias, in front of the former police station Orogun, a few kilometer from the University of Ibadan main gate.
Speaking with OYO INSIGHT, Alli, said the video was doctored, though he didn’t deny slapping the man.
This newspaper had received a video, alleging Alli of descending on the man because he refused to bribe the council boss before sinking the borehole.
Taiwo was said to have been supervising a drilling of borehole on his site when the council chairman allegedly with thugs.
Alli has, however, debunked the claim saying it was untrue.
“It was a case of self defense. I was called by the councilors for intervention. Normally, the council charges N5,000 rates for borehole drilling within the council. The task force members, all women, had visited the site to ask for the receipt when they were beaten. I had to send my councilors there but when they couldn’t settle the matter as they were also attacked, I had to come in. I got there and he attacked me again. He even kicked me. It was in the process of self defense that I slapped him.”
As at the time of filing this report, our reporter has not been able to hear Taiwo.
