The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu joined his ancestors in the early hours today and the city has been thrown into a state of mourning. As this ritual goes on, the question of whether Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will pay a condolence visit to the family of the late first class monarch looms large.
OYOINSIGHT.COM can report that as the current administration in the state enters its third year, Makinde has made a name for himself in, among other things, showing little respect for the death of very important people in the state.
This newspaper recalls that when late former Governor, Abiola Ajimobi died, Makinde did not only fail to pay a condolence visit to his family, his refusal to officially extend his condolences at the early led to an avoidable rift between the state government and the family of the late elder statesman.
From December 2021 to January 2022 alone, the state has lost two monarchs, the Soun of Ogbomosho and the Asigangan of Igangan land, and OYOINSIGHT.COM can confirm that the governor did not pay any official visit to the family of the late royal fathers. He did not even deem it fit to wait at Ogbomoso last Monday while returning to Ibadan from Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
So as the people of Ibadan begin to mourn the exit of Olubadan, the unasked question hovers: Will Makinde change his ways?
