Effective from the beginning of the 2018/2019 academic session, nursing, medical and biomedical students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, will start paying N300,000 as tuition fee, OYO INSIGHT has learnt.

The resolution was part of decisions taken at the 133rd meeting of the Governing Council held on July 5, 2018.

The Council, OYO INSIGHT learnt, is expected to meet the owner states of Oyo and Osun over the decision.

Inside source confided in our reporter that the action became imperative owing to the fact that the owner states can no longer fund the institution.

Not long ago, the institution workers were at home for close to a year due to non-payment of salary.

The source added that the decision affects students from 100 Level to 400 level, explaining that “this is to make the university self-sustaining. The Governing Council will meet with the owner-states and present it to them. It is very sure they cannot find the university but they have options of choosing between funding the institution or accepting this proposal.”

This development, it was gathered, has raised tension among students and their parents.

In the new proposal, engineering students will pay N250,000, while students of the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences will pay N200,000

This is just as the management, in the memo, said it would “work out modalities for scholarship schemes to support the indigent students.”
