Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s Ibadan North West / South West federal constituency is in the news. The governor is losing sleep over his inability to impose his choice as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the 2019 election.
Initially, Ajimobi wanted to compensate Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, a second term member of the House of Representatives, for his ‘supportive role’ during the crisis that rocked the party. However, the wife – Mrs Florence Ajimobi, prefers Hon. Rotimi Ajanaku. There are others like Hon. Kehinde Subair, Mrs Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo and Mr Gbolahan Ibikunle.
The election that was supposed to take place yesterday was delayed as the governor tried to persuade other aspirants to step down for Fijabi. The other aspirants insisted that they wanted primaries. Attempt to get Ajanaku to settle for a commissionership slot fell on deaf ears.
The stalemate, OYO INSIGHT learnt, made Ajimobi to throw the game open as both leading aspirants are ‘too important’ to him.
When this newspaper visited the venue of the primaries, the election has just begun. That was about 7 pm.
