The Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic and Senior Staff Unions of Nigerian Polythecnic, The Polytechnic Ibadan have written the chairman of the institution’s governing council over the ongoing staff verification exercise.
The exercise, OYOINSIGHT.COM gathered, was contracted to a consultant, Platinum.
However, in the letter, the unions “observed that the consultant was not well briefed about the peculiarities of the condition of service of staff in Tertiary institutions in the state.”
They noted that the announcement by the consultant that two workers had been sacked is “completely unprofessional and capable of causing crisis in the system.”
According to the letter, the two staff members of the institution pronounced sacked by the consultant have now been hospitalized.
The unions noted that “the law permits staff of the Polytechnic Ibadan to stay at work till the age of 65 years irrespective of the years of service.”
Contrary to this, they alleged that the consultant has failed to respect this law.
They also noted that since staff members were not appointed by the consultant, their sack by the consultant is illegal.
They then called on the council to intervene in the issue soonest.
