Power minister, Adebayo Adelabu, is trending, but for the wrong reason, on twitter over what tweeps described as his search for political powers ahead of the 2027 election.

With his academic brilliance and display at the ministerial screening, many had expected Adelabu, who was drafted to the ministry former Kaduna governor, Nasir el-Rufai, was pencilled down for, to hit the ground running.

Three days ago, The Punch reported how shortage of gas supplies to electricity generation companies has worsened Nigeria’s power crisis. The country, the newspaper reported, requires an estimated 30,000 megawatts to achieve electricity sufficiency, but has only been able to generate 5,000 megawatts, falling short of the Federal Government’s target set last year.

As at 7:30 am, Saturday morning, the former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, is 5th on the trend table, trailing Atiku (4th), and three others.

Adelabu, OYOINSIGHT.COM understands, had been inaugurated minister on Monday and while he was being expected to settle down in office like his other colleagues, photos emerged of the Ibadan-born politician’s visit to Umar Ganduje’s residence. Though many attributed his visit to Ganduje as consultative move to facilitate his official defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC, which he dumped ahead of the 2023 election, Adelabu in a tweet said he had gone to congratulate the immediate past Kano governor.

As if that was not enough, Adelabu paid a visit to Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu the next day, an action tweeps described as unbecoming of someone who is saddled with a critical ministry.

Only yesterday, the Accord governorship candidate in the 2023 election in the state, who returned to Ibadan, the state capital, to the waiting hands of supporters, friends and family members, prayed Jumah at the Ibadan central Mosque. He also visited the Olubadan, Ọba Lekan Balogun. He would later attend a dinner in his honour by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, where he promised to not disappoint the people of Ibadan.

Meanwhile his tweet 8 hours ago, has been greeted with criticisms. While some said he did not get some spellings of some dams and power plants correctly, others said he lacks information about the ministry. Against his tweet that he would see to the completion of some projects, tweeps said the Zungeru hydroelectric power plant has been completed long ago.
