Chairman of the House of Representatives’ committee on communication, Prince Akeem Adeyemi, has met communications minister, Dr Isa Ali Pantami, on the need to positive engage the youth to mitigate the negative effects of ravaging poverty in our society.
According to the two-term lawmaker representing Oyo federal constituency, “Hardworking Nigerian youths need to be empowered in the field of information and communication technology (ICT)”, I reiterated.
Also, while impressing it further on, Skimeh as he is fondly called, implored the minister to set a development agenda and map out strategy on ICT training for our teeming youths; the skilled and unskilled among them.
Pantami, while responding, assured the house committee on communications that a feasible synergy would be crafted between the Legislative and Executive arms.
He stated further that, with the inputs and legislative support of the National Assembly, the Ministry is determined to train Nigerian youths (those with and without university degree) on essential ICT skills relevant in the digital world.
“Under the Buhari administration, youths have undergone intensive ICT training and have received empowerment kits as startups. The administration will not rest on her oars, as more training programmes are in the offing for the youths, in a bid to eradicate poverty and ensure economic growth”, the Minister said.
