The Rector said the virtual matriculation in which the students participated online through Zoom application was a departure from the conventional face to face matriculation due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic protocols which forbids large gathering of people.

The Rector who noted that indecent dressing, cultism and other antisocial activities will attract suspension or outright expulsion from the institution added that the nature of the sanction to be applied depends on the gravity of the punishment attached to the breached regulation as contained in The Students Handbook, a copy of which had been made available to each student.

“The Polytechnic, Ibadan cherishes its hard-earned name and image. Students are expected to respect the rules and regulations of the institution as breaching of these would attract appropriate sanctions.

“My dear students, remember that you are today laying a foundation which must be solid enough to support the structure you are going to build on. Whatever you are going to be in the future, the foundation is being laid now, Professor Adebiyi further admonished.”

While congratulating the newly matriculated students, The Rector observed that The Polytechnic, Ibadan remains the first choice institution for numerous applicants as a result of the institution’s pedigree as a foremost institution of technological innovations.

For the on-going session, he disclosed that thirteen thousand, nine hundred and seventy four (13,974) applicants were screened for the National Diploma programme out of which only three thousand and seventy (3,070) applicants were considered for admission.

At the Higher National Diploma level, five thousand, five hundred and seventeen (5,517) applicants were considered out of which only two thousand, nine hundred and twenty (2,920) were admitted into the various programmes run by the institution.

The Rector also commended The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde for promoting excellence in the institution through his unflinching support for all the activities of the foremost institution.

He disclosed that The Governor has always been concerned about the welfare of the Staff and the Students and has not hesitated in granting huge financial support for the accreditation of the programmes run by the institution.
