The lawmaker representing Oyo central senatorial district, Yunus Akintunde Ph.D, has described the death of a former governor of Oyo State, Omololu Olunloyo Ph.D, as coming at a time when his wisdom was most needed.

Olunloyo died in the early hours of Sunday, 6th April, 2025, 9 days to his 90th birthday.

Describing the deceased as a kind of a genius who only comes in a century, the All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, said Olunloyo’s intellectual acumen marveled him till he died.

In a personally signed statement, the Oyo-born politician said that “I commiserate with family, friends and admirers of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo over his transition. Though he advanced in age before he transitioned, one would have loved to have him around. He is the third of our former governors to have died in the last few years. Whenever you visit the old man, you will marvel at his brilliance. If he wanted to quote something, he knew the books and pages. His brain was as sharp as when he received a doctoral degree from St. Andrews University in 1961, at the age of 26. His thesis—Numerical Determination of the Solutions of Eigenvalue Problems of the Sturm–Liouville Type was adjudged one of the best of the time, and for many years. Baba later became commissioner, and governor of Oyo State.

“Without doubt, he was one of our best. He was a kind of a mentor— though a mathematician, he was solid in history, literature, law and general studies. Baba knew something about everything. He didn’t only collect books, he read all his collection. He didn’t stop reading till now. He would be sorely missed.

“I commiserate with the family over this loss. May God give them the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement added.
