Senator Monsurat Sunmonu has wished Muslims and Nigerians generally a happy Eid al-Adha celebration.
Speaking from her Oyo residence, the former speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, said that “Eid al-Adha commemorates the prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son in order to demonstrate his dedication to Allah.”
Sunmonu explained that Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to fulfil his covenant with God, against the greatest of temptations, was a lesson for all.
She encouraged the Muslims to imbibe prophet Ibrahim’s forthrightness to his creator, saying that there was huge benefit to remaining true to ones faith.
In the name of community spirit and brotherhood, the former Speaker admonished the Muslim Ummah to follow the tenets of Eid al-Adha by sharing slaughtered animals with the poor, neighbours and others in the community.
Quoting Quran chapter 49 verses 12-15, the Senator said that at this critical moment in the country’s history, there was a serious need for Muslims to avoid negative assumptions and sinful thoughts towards kinsmen. She instead advocated that all be left in Allah’s able hands.
