A middle-aged woman was crushed to death by a truck at the Molete area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Wednesday morning.
The tragedy struck at the early hours of the day close to the Molete roundabout, and the woman gave up the ghost before she could be resuscitated.
According to an eyewitness account, “the woman where she stood seemed to be unsuspecting of a moving truck, and unfortunately, as she was about to cross the road, she missed her balance and fell close the truck on the express-road.
“The driver of the truck coming from the Challenge end who could also not rescue the situation hit the woman and people were unable to help her situation and she died almost immediately.”
The eyewitnesses who could identify her as a known person said she was going to her shop.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Office (PPRO), Mr Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the unfortunate incident to Tribune Online, said it was being investigated.
The officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Civil Defence Corps (NSDC), and men of the Nigeria Police were at the scene of the incident to prevent traffic breakdown and to arrest the situation.
The remains of the woman had been moved to a morgue by the FRSC officials.
