It is official. Governor Abiola Ajimobi is seeking a return to the Nigerian Senate where he left in 2007.
While many people, especially political analysts, are still skeptical about his ambition, Ajimobi has secretly obtained the All Progressives Congress, senatorial nomination forms.
Many of the governor’s aide are afraid of confirming the story officially for fear of being dealt with. Few of them who spoke on the condition of anonymity, however, confirmed it.
The district is currently represented by APC’s Sen. Adesoji Akanbi, who is also interested in a return.
Though the governor is not ‘comfortable’ announcing his decision publicly, OYO INSIGHT learnt that the form was purchased with fund allegedly donated from the purse of council chairmen in the state. Ajimobi had, at Lafia Hotels’ Oyo South senatorial meeting of the party, told the council bosses to tarry.
This laid to rest speculations surrounding the governor’s ambition. Before 2018, Ajimobi had, at different fora, said he would not contest for any elective position when he completes his term. His ambition, this newspaper learnt, is borne out of the need to ‘deodorize’ his alleged ‘smelly armpit’.
It was unsure whether Akanbi has obtained nomination form as at the time of filing this report, OYO INSIGHT learnt that Dr Fola Akinosun has signified interest in the position as he has obtained nomination forms last week.
