SITUATION REPORT ON NON-PAYMENT OF ACCUMULATED SALARY ARREARS (8 TO 24 MONTHS) OF WORKERS IN THE SIX OYO STATE OWNED TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS.

PREAMBLE

Members of the public will recall several spirited efforts of the Trade Unions in the six Oyo state owned tertiary institutions to prevail upon Senator Abiola Ajimobi led government to defray the accrued arrears of between 8 and 24 months owed the Staff of these institutions. The efforts of the Unions involved private entreaties and public appeals on media among others. We will like to earnestly appreciate all well meaning persons including traditional rulers and notable politicians that had supported the course for the past three (3) years, especially in the recent time.

RECENT DEVELOPMENT

The hope of workers in Oyo state owned tertiary institutions rose to a crescendo when we had information that part of arrears would be defrayed by Tuesday 5th March, 2019.

THE REALITY ON GROUND

As at today, Wednesday, 6th March, 2019, the following captures the reality of the situation of workers in Oyo state owned tertiary institutions:

1. No member of the staff of any of the six state owned tertiary institutions has been paid any part of the arrears of between 8 and 24 months, despite our agitations.

The only information we have is that the Government is planning to defray the arrears of salaries in 30-35 months (3years) arrangement.

2. The inadequate monthly subventions that has compelled the staff of these institutions to fractional salaries since January 2016 have not been reviewed, implying that the arrears still continue to mount.

CONCLUSION

Workers in all the six Oyo state owned tertiary institutions hereby expressed our displeasure at the unfair treatment being meted out to us over the years by the government of the day.

We hereby appeal to the government to reconsider her position on the planned piecemeal payments of the arrears .

Thank you.

Signed
