As Ramadan progresses, the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo state Chapter yesterday broke their fast with Adebayo Adelabu, All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in the 2019 election.

This, according to their media office of the immediate past deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, was the first in the series of Iftar invitations to major party stakeholders and prominent Oyo state indigenes.

Adelabu, who warmly received the ALGON members appreciated them for honouring the Iftar invitation and deemed it worthy to break the fast with him.

Femi Awogboro, one of Adelabu’s media aides, revealed that his principal happily welcome the council chairmen, appreciating them for identifying with him in this Holy Month.

He quoted Adelabu as urging ALGON members to continue to work for the unity and progress of the party in their respective council area.

Adelabu said that the state is in need of the Progressive party for the security and socio-economic advancement of the state.

“I implore you to put the interest of the party above personal interests and let’s work collectively for the victory of APC come 2023 in Oyo state. I must not fail to appreciate your unflinching support given to me before, during and after the 2019 Governorship election in Oyo state while looking forward to your continous support ahead of 2023 poll,”Adelabu said.

Two members of ALGON, Mr Adeyinka Adeyemi of Ajorosun Local Council Development Area and Mr Arowomole of Lagelu Local Government in their respective responses said the group is committed to supporting the aspiration of Adelabu to occupy the number one position in Oyo state.

They said their support, which is not sentimental nor favour-driven, is not just based on the fact that he was the party’s candidate in the 2019 general elections, but most importantly because Adelabu is most qualified to drive the state to unequalled performance while his candidature is highly sellable given the results of the last election and surveyed public expectation for 2023.

“He currently enjoys the people’s sympathy consequent upon the lackluster performance of the present administration and fielding a different, unknown and unpopular candidate at this point may spell doom for the party come 2023,” they said.

Speaking at the Iftar programme, late former governor Abiola Ajimobi’s younger brother, Mogaji of the Ajimobi’s clan, Alhaji Wasiu Ajimobi said he attended the Iftar to identify with Adelabu as his friend and strong supporter towards the realisation of his ambition to become the governor of Oyo state.

“My late brother, the former governor’s choice of Adelabu as the party’s flagbearer in 2019 was not by accident but his belief and trust in Adelabu’s capacity, capability and family antecedent to succeed him among other equally qualified candidates. He worked hard for this together with the party before his death and it is my wish that we continue where he stopped to realise this ambition in 2023. I’m sure, wherever he is today, that would still be his wish. I trust him and his sense of choice and decision. So, i’m fully commited to this project amd i enjoin my friends in ALGON to continue to support what is right at all times. Adelabu’s choice for 2023 is the right choice, no sentiment,” Ajimobi revealed.

The Iftar Programme also provided a platform to discuss pertinent issues pertaining to Oyo APC and development of Nigeria.
