For Alhaji AbdulAkeem Adébáyọ̀ Afuye, Chief Imam of Bodija Estate and Environs Muslim Community, BEEMC, Islamic Center, it was a Friday like no other.
Muslim Youths of the center presented a Toyota Camry to him, an action which drew applause and commendation from those who came to observe Jumah.
Mr. Leke Badmus, Zonal Head at Sigma Pension who initiated the crowdfunding move, said the idea was birthed by few of them after which they created a WhatsApp group on October 14, 2022.
“We believe that we are populated by well-to-do individuals among us. We just felt we can do it. So we started. And here we are today. Alhamdulilah.
“We are grateful that we surpassed the target within a month. We are grateful for this feat. We never knew we could do this within the shortest possible time. Imam Afuye deserved more than this and we are pleased to do this. We are more than motivated.” he said.
BEEMC Chairman, Engr. Kolapo Yunus Adisa, in a statement by Sikiru Akinola, the community’s publicity secretary, commended the efforts of the youth saying that they have etched their names in gold for the gesture.
Bodija Estate Muslim Youths Forum, BOMYOF, chairman, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Kolawole, also lauded the effort of his colleagues, explaining that it was the beginning of a new dawn.
A visibly surprised Imam Afuye prayed for the youths and the entire congregants. He said they are shining examples to other Muslim youths elsewhere.
