Staffers of Splash and Lagelu FM stations yesterday identified with protesters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to call for the total disbandment of the dreaded Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS.
OYOINSIGHT.COM understands that the #EndSARS has gained momentum in the country since last week.
Splash FM, Oyo’s first radio station and Lagelu FM, are owned by Chief Bayo Akande, an Ibadan senior chief.
Staff of the two radio stations joined Nigerian youths based in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on the tenth day of the #EndSARS protest.
This was just as they disclosed that they will not back out on the struggle until their demands are met.
The youths who blocked major roads in Ibadan in protest against the inhumane treatment, insecurity and brutality which Nigerians, especially youths, experienced in the hands of SARS officials and some bad eggs in the police force called out President Muhammadu Buhari to give a Presidential broadcast on the issue.
Some of them, who spoke to at the protest site at Challenge area of the city, expressed total displeasure on the manner at which the matter had been handled by the Federal government of Nigeria.
They added that due to misappropriation of power, countless number of vibrant youths has been killed by the agency which was meant to protect life and properties of citizens, noting that till date, all efforts to get justice for the victims have proven abortive.
Furthermore, they condemned the inspector general of police for coming up with another tactical squad called SWAT without addressing the existing grievances.
Some staff members and popular presenters from Splash 105.5 FM and Lagelu 96.7 FM in a show of solidarity also joined the protest among who are; Tunde Olawuwo, Ronke Giwa Onafuwa, Mariam Gbadebo M Spyce, Olawale Hamzat, Titi Akinsola, Kunle Anifowose, Seun Akinola, Michael Olatubosun, among others.
