Another record has been set by the University of Ibadan. This morning, a veiled woman, Motunrayo Kafilat Oyaremi, will be conferred with the award of doctor of philosophy (Ph.D) in educational evaluation (early childhood education) by the institution.
Her research work was on girl-child education in the north.
Though it could not be confirmed as at press time, OYOINSIGHT.COM learnt that Mrs Oyaremi is the first veiled muslim to bag a Ph.D from the institution. Sources told this newspaper that it is not sure whether the woman is not the first veiled muslim to reach that educational height in Nigeria.
This is coming at a time many people, especially Nigerian muslim women, put a stop to their educational pursuit after becoming a ‘Niqobite’ ( a veiled muslim ).
The 39-year old had graduated from the institution’s department of theatre arts in 2005, going home with a federal government scholarship as the best graduating student.
She would later enroll for a postgraduate diploma in education after which she bagged a master’s degree in early childhood education.
A playwright, she has written a number of children books majorly play etc. She runs a Nursery and Primary School; Milestone School Ibadan.
