For the first time, the ancient town of Oyo will have a frequency modulated radio station, though a private enterprise and a brainchild of the Ajayi Crowther University, ACU, Oyo.
Residents who spoke with OYOINSIGHT.COM expressed joy listening to the station on 88.5 FM.
It was further learnt that the institution only got verbal approval for test transmission from the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, NBC.
This is coming many years after agitations by the community to have a state-owned radio stations were unsuccessful.
OYOINSIGHT.COM recalls that the immediate past administration of Sen. Abiola Ajimobi could not achieve it.
This newspaper understands that Ajimobi, had in the build up to his re-election, came up with the idea of Atiba FM, which was to complement Okeogun FM, Ajilete FM and Oluyole FM. But 5 years down the line, the building, which is opposite the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, is yet to reach lintel level and overgrown with weeds.
This was just as he stated that the station would be under the watch of the Department of Communication and Media Studies.
