Oyo South: My Support Is For Oseni, Not Odidiomo— Olopoeyan

A chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, has said he may support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Engr. Remi Oseni, against the APM candidate, Rt. Hon. Stanley Adedeji Olajide Odidiomo, in the 2027 Oyo South Senatorial District election.

Olopoeyan made the disclosure while speaking in Yoruba during a recent interview with Peter Olasupo, popularly known as Captain P2, in his residence.

Explaining his position, Olopoeyan said his relationship with the two politicians was different, stressing that Oseni had been his friend for many years and had consistently maintained contact with him.

He added that Oseni had regularly visited him, attended several of his personal occasions and had continued to relate with him beyond politics.

According to him, “Mo ti mo Remi Oseni ki Odidiomo to mo mi” — meaning, “I have known Remi Oseni before Odidiomo. He attends my personal events. So, I know him very well.”

Olopoeyan further stated that since Odidiomo emerged as the candidate for the Oyo South senatorial seat, the lawmaker had neither visited nor related with him, adding that there was no meaningful relationship between them even before the emergence of the senatorial candidacy.

He said his possible support for Oseni would therefore be based largely on their longstanding personal relationship and the latter’s continued engagement with him.

“I may support Remi Oseni against Odidiomo,” Olopoeyan stated, explaining that Oseni had consistently demonstrated that he valued their relationship by visiting him and identifying with him on important personal occasions.

Similarly, the APM chieftain drew a distinction between his relationship with other senatorial candidates and that which he has with the party’s governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi.

Describing Adekanmbi as his brother, Olopoeyan said they relate very well and that he has no personal problem with the APM governorship candidate.

He also spoke positively about Ajadi, who emerged as the party’s candidate for the Oyo Central Senatorial District, describing him as a good man who has been moving around and consulting with people at the grassroots.

Olopoeyan wished Ajadi well, saying the candidate has been relating with different people and has not been sidelining anyone.

He also rejected the suggestion that he is an aggrieved member of the APM, insisting that he remains firmly rooted in the party’s structure.

“I am not an aggrieved person in the party. The structure is with me, not Governor Makinde,” he said.
