The lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial district, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu, has not stopped financing a young football talent, Usman Adelodun, who was discovered 6 years ago. This, according to the lawmaker, is to make the young lad achieve his dream of being a professional footballer.
Usman, who was the MVP of a football competition facilitated by Sunmonu, when she was the speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2012, used to play at Fola Tyre area of Oyo town.
Sunmonu had, through her Football Scholarship, enrolled Adelodun at the Lead City University Football Academy for U-15 boys. The Academy is coordinated by a FIFA-trained former Super Eagles Coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde.
Apart from the payment of school fees, Usman has been receiving a monthly upkeep from the lawmakers.
Sunmonu, who was the only female lawmaker in the 32-member Assembly, represented Oyo East / West state constiuency between 2011 and 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC before winning election to represent Oyo Central. She is reconstesting the seat on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, she joined few weeks ago after an irreconcilable difference with the leadership of the APC.
At a recent visit, Onigbinde was said to have expressed gratefulness to Sunmonu for demonstrating great zeal to the course.
Sunmonu is the first female speaker of Oyo Assembly and the first female senator from the state.
