Idris Lapade, former chairman,Ibadan North local government, has advised that it is better for the All Progressives Congress, APC, to allow congresses rather than consensus as the party elects executives at the ward level.
Lapido who is speaking ahead of tomorrow’s congress in Oyo state, said consensus throws up lackeys of godfathers as executives.
According to him, “peace can return to Oyo APC only if party members are allowed to elect, through a open ballot system, those who they feel can steer the ship of the party. We cannot continue to do the same thing the same way and expect a different result. In 2014 when we had our congress, the success laid the foundation for our 2015 victory. In the build up to the 2019 election, that we did not hoods true congress, see what happened, hopefully we have learnt our lessons.
”If we don’t allow congress, we may be in for another round of trouble and this won’t be too good as the 2023 elections are around the corner . History will never forget and forgive our leaders if they don’t allow party members to choose who they want,” he added.
