The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has commended the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, for the choice of public edifices renamed after some prominent persons deemed to have served humanity meritoriously and contributed their quotas to the development of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
The government had on Tuesday renamed both its College of Agriculture in Igboora and the recently dualised Efunsetan-Orita Challenge Road in Ibadan after the late former governor of the state, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina, while other notable public facilities were renamed after some other prominent indigenes of the state.
Addressing journalists at the APC secretariat in Ibadan on Thursday, the party’s state chairman, Chief Akin Oke, described the honour of the late Adesina as “well deserved and gratifying” in view of his record of service to humanity and Oyo State in particular.
“We in the progressive fold are particularly glad that our departed leader had to be immortalised with such befitting public edifices. Senator Ajimobi has done us proud again and the whole will forever appreciate his kind gesture. Same goes for other eminent personalities such as Oba Lamidi Olayiwola (the Alaafin of Oyo), Oba Saliu Adetunji (the Olubadan of Ibadanland), Oba Jimoh Oyewumi (the Soun of Ogbomosoland), Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala and the late Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin, who were so immortalised.

“This singular gesture would go a long way to encourage other people to do all within their capacity to serve well and benefit humanity as much as they can, especially when they have the opportunity.

“The announcement could not have come at a better time in view of the fact that contemporary leaders would have to strive and beat the record of those who have served before them and left the scene with their heads high.

“Apart from being the executive governor who laid the foundation of democracy in the state in this Fourth Republic, Alhaji Lam Adesina was a fantastic educationist, columnist, human rights activist and parliamentarian who did not spare any opportunity to impact positively on the lives of his people. Everyone who claims to be Lam’s disciple should be in the APC now with this development.

“Honouring such an enigma with worthy public edifices is a fantastic thing that only a wonderful mind can deliver. Senator Ajimobi has again given life to the section of our national anthem which states that the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain. In view of this, the entire global progressive family is grateful to the architect of modern Oyo State,” Oke added.
