Mr. Olaniyi Adekunle, the Acting Rector, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, OYSCATECH, has warned the newly matriculated students of the institution to desist from cultism and other social vices.
He gave the warning last Wednesday in Igboora during the matriculation ceremony of students into the institution’s National Diploma, ND, and Higher National Diploma, HND, programmes for the 2019/2020 academic session.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the 1,805 new students were matriculated out of which 1,160 were admitted for ND in various departments, 350 for HND, while 295 were admitted for part time programmes.
NAN reports that the Oyo state College of Agriculture, Igboora, OYSCAI, now Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, OYSCATECH, started as a monotechnic in August 2006 and migrated to full-pledged polytechnic status in April 2019.
“For avoidance of doubts, out of thousands that are qualified for admissions into National Diploma programmes, only 1,160 were offered provisional admission into national diploma programmes.
“350 were admitted for Higher National Diploma (HND) and 295 were admitted for part time programmes making the sum of 1,805 students being matriculated today,” he said.
Adekunle warned them to desist from cultism and other form of vices, saying involvement in such attracts suspension or expulsion of the students as the case might be.
He stressed that the institution detest and frown at indecent dressing, sexual harassment, drug abuse, act of prostitution and other forms of vices capable of destroying the good image of the institution.
“Now that you have taken the matriculation oath, you have not only become duty bound, but you are expected to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the matriculation oath as administered.
“I wish to use this opportunity to remind the students that the college has zero tolerance for examination misconduct and other related vices.
“As institution, we detest and frown at indecent dressing, sexual harassment, drug abuse, act of prostitution and other embarrassing activities,”he said.
The OYSCATECH boss commended the state government for supporting the institutional financially and prompt payment of salaries of its workers.
Adekunle urged the state government to expedite action on the renovation of decayed infrastructural facilities in the school.
He assured the parents that the institution has concluded plans to begin collaboration with the French agencies on curriculum development and staff training.
According to him, “I wish to commend the Oyo state government and the governor on its efforts at resuscitating the lost glory of Oyo state in the area of Agriculture.
“Let me reiterate that Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora is well positioned to be a worthy partner with the Oyo state government in providing agricultural training for youths in the state.”
NAN reports that the matriculation ceremony was attended by the Deputy Rector, Dr. Ariyo Okunlola, the Registrar, Mr. Niyi Fehintola and other management team.
