Thousands of supporters yesterday accompanied Honourable Abiodun Dada Awoleye as he attended his first Accord’s local government meeting since he joined the party earlier this month.
At the meeting which held at Òkè Àpọ́n area of Ibadan North Local Government, Awoleye who is representing the federal constituency, introduced himself to the admiration of the large procession of party members who enthusiastically welcomed him with songs and drums.
Being his first time to attend the Local Government meeting since he joined Accord, Awoleye, Awoleye appreciated the enthusiasm with which he was welcomed into the party.
A statement from his media office quoted him as saying that “I am most delighted by this enthusiasm displayed on my welcoming into the fold of this great party. It feels like a true homecoming for me, seeing you all in so much frenzied mood today.”
Awoleye also thanked his age long followers from APC: “I am equally grateful to my ever supportive friends and family in the Awoleye Solidarity Assembly, the Itesiwaju Ipinle Oyo Group, including our political allies, and my innumerable ardent supporters across Oyo State and beyond for the unflinching support for, and loyalty to Abiodun Dada Awoleye. The journey so far would not have been possible without you all. I am grateful for the love.”
In his remark, Awoleye, who represented Ibadan North constituency 2 between 2007 and 2011, advised the leadership of the party to always put the progress and development of Oyo State first, and to uphold the tenets of democracy in their activities.
“It is worthy of note that the true essence of politics is, and should always be for the growth and development of the people. Hence Oyo State politics should not be different. I advise this great party to prioritise the growth and development of Oyo State above all other considerations. Second, we must distinguish ourselves from other political parties by upholding the true tenets of democracy in all our dealings.
“On a final note, I am renewing my pledge to serve Nigeria with all my strength, and to uphold the development of Oyo State and the welfare of its people. The people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency have trusted me twice, and I have never disappointed you all. I hereby renew my dedication to uplifting Ibadan North with the help of you all.”
Also speaking at the meeting, the party chairman, Elder Omoniyi, expressed great delight to welcome Awoleye into the party.
“Today is the greatest of all the days I’ve experienced in my 35 years of active politics. A bright has entered our midst, and so we cannot hide our joy. Ajimobi has lost a great son to us; Awoleye’s entry into Accord is a new beginning for our party in Oyo State.”
