The League of Imams and Alfas in Oyo Central Senatorial District has pledged support to the re-election bid of Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, commending the former Speaker of Oyo State for being a good ambassador of Islam.
The League of Imams and Alfas comprising members from Akinyele, Egbeda, Lagelu, Ona-Ara and Oluyole, gave their words of commendation while receiving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial candidate.
The League of Imams, led by the Chief Imams of each local government, assured the senatorial candidate of ADC, senator Sunmonu of a landmark victory come 2019 elections.
The League of Imam and Alfa said apart from recognising the fact that Sen. Sunmonu is a devoted Muslim with strong faith and belief in Allah as reflected in her personal life and her style of politics since 2011 she has always exemplified herself by making sure the League of Imams was always carried along and never for once excluded from her dividends of democracy, including religious pilgrimages.
They added that the League of Imam and Alfas were not in support of Sunmonu because of money but because of the fear of Allah she has and her genuine love for the masses.
They added further that Senator Sunmonu knows the essence of prayers which has been her pilots to success in all what she lays her hands on, hence the more reasons to seek Allah’s blessings on her re-elections bid, and have been organising special prayers her victory at the upcoming polls.
Imam Okuside of Akinyele, Imam Ahmad Igana, Imam Bilau Awayewaserere of Oluyole, Imam Salaudeen Lafeef of Ona-Ara, Imam Abdul Quadri Kilani Olagunju of Egbeda and Imams from Lagelu stated emphatically that Oyo Central has never had it so good from any Senator. They encouraged Senator Sunmonu should keep the good work she is known for and be rest assured that they are strongly and solidly behind her.
While also calling on other politicians to irrespective of religion or party affiliation to emulate senator Monsurat Sunmonu by keeping to their promises and let their religion speak volumes on them, the League of Imams and Alfas urged Muslims, Christians and the people of Oyo Central in general not to lose their votes, but vote for a trustworthy politician who is religious with proven integrity like Senator Sunmonu who is tested, trusted and reliable.
Others who also spoke said the era we are now in Oyo Central is the era of Senator Sunmonu.
While responding, Senator Sunmonu who is the ADC candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial Candidate thanked the league of Imams and Alfas in Oyo central for believing in her, adding that she appreciated their prayers and support during the last elections. She further urged them not to relent in their support and prayers towards the 2019 elections.
Senator Sunmonu said having been born in to a devoted and dedicated Muslim home she knows the essence of prayers and will continue to do things that will promote Islam in all ramifications.
Sunmonu who is the Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs added that her opting to join ADC was only premised on the need to alleviate the sufferings of the masses. Importantly, she further urged the League of Imams and Alfas to also support other ADC candidates in Oyo State.
She was accompanied by ADC Oyo Central women leaders, Alhaja Lawal and women leaders from the 11 local governments, party faithfuls and religious heads.
