A socio-political body, the Lamist Movement, which professes the political ideals and principles of a former governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lam Adesina, has joined the state chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and declared to support the party for 2019 elections.

The Lamist Movement was hitherto a part of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) until the  in last congresses held by the party led to division and bickering, forcing the movement to exit the party to swell the camp of the opposition ADC.

The decision to join ADC, which is already home to members of the Unity Forum which also broke away from the APC, was contained in a statement signed by some members of the group including Mr Tunde Babarinde; Chief Caleb Oyaniyi; Chief Mufutau Olayiwola; Mr Samson Adesiyan; Chief Musa Ogundeji; Mr Bayo Ojedele; Dr Bolaji Ojooba and Honourable Muil Popoola, among others.

“The Lamist Movement, having studied the political climate of Oyo State and the need to restore the progressive values of party supremacy, good governance, integrity, and commitment to the common good, hereby comes to the following decisions:

“In view of the current political alliances and alignments playing out in the state and the need for all hands to be on deck in reclaiming the lost progressive values in the state as a template for other states in Nigeria, it is agreed that the movement forthwith formally declare to join other compatriots in ADC.

“ADC is a vehicle for the realisation of the greater goal of restoring the progressive values in the policy, politics and the immediate goal of rescuing Oyo State from insensitive and anti-people government.

“The movement cannot afford to be non-committal in the face of glaring abuse and derogation of the progressive values to which the movement subscribes in the state. That the restoration of the aforementioned values is a pre-requisite for the realisation of the progressive ethos and creed as demonstrated by Alhaji Lam Adesina both in private and public life.

“That we came to these decisions in good faith and in the belief that Oyo State shall rise rise and shine again,” the statement said.
