OYHA Members Attend Maiden S/W Inter-parliamentary C’tee Meeting In Ekiti

Yesterday, the Ekiti State House of Assembly house Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations under my Chairmanship hosted the leadership of the Committee in the various Houses of Assembly in the Southwest, Nigeria to her maiden meeting at Ado Ekiti.

The Chairmen and members from various states first observed plenary at the floor of the Ekiti State House of Assembly after which they had an interactive session with the leadership of the house under Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye.

Members of the forum then visited some of the ongoing projects in Ekiti State and subsequently paid a courtesy call on Mr Governor, HE Dr John Kayode Fayemi at his office before their breakout session focusing on Synergizing towards harmonious relationship among Southwest legislative houses.

It is to be noted that the Committee is saddled by the harmonized Standing Orders of the house with the responsibilities to among others:

1a. Studying, analyzing and suggesting improvement of the Charters of Inter Parliamentary Cooperative groupings of which the House is a member as well as finding other ways by which the State Legislature shall exert itself upon.

b. Initiating good policies on Parliamentary research and documentation and ensuring efficient data bank on State Assemblies.

c. Recommending to the House the formation of, and entry into, any new Parliamentary groupings.

d. Ensuring the maintenance of harmonious and productive relations between the State Assembly and other parliaments.

e. Ensuring the maintenance of harmonious and productive relations with, and in all international Parliamentary associations such as Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU); Commonwealth Parliamentary Associations (CPA); and Other International Parliamentary Associations.

The outcomes of the meeting would be subsequently made known to the general public.
