Oyo state government, in partnership with Savvy Event, is set to stage Ibadan Marathon 2024 to celebrate the vibrant spirit, strength, and unity of the iconic state and home to many first.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, confirmed this at the inaugural press conference of Ibadan Marathon 2024, held at Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
Miss Adegoke said the initiative tagged “Ere Idaraya” aims to promote health and fitness, open up the local economy, and showcase the beauty of Ibadan city [1).
According to the commissioner, Ibadan Marathon 2024 represents an opportunity for runners, families, and spectators to come together in celebration of sportsmanship and community spirit.
CEO Savvy Event, Arinola Idowu, said Ibadan Marathon 2024 aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s agenda on infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and social welfare, positioning Oyo state as a contemporary sport, commerce, and entertainment hub.
Idowu announced that elite runners would be rewarded in dollars, Nigerian runners in naira, while those running for a healthy lifestyle and fun would also receive prizes. Interested athletes can register at (link unavailable) for the 42.195km full marathon or 10km fun run on Saturday, November 2nd, at 7 am.
Arinola added that popular Ibadan fuji musician, Taye Currency, would entertain athletes and spectators at Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba, the finish line for both races.
