Otun Olubadan Position, Others Vacant But… — Olubadan

The crisis generated by the elevation of high chiefs and Baales to Obaship statuses may not end anytime soon.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji may no longer work with them as Olubadan-in-council.
Though OYO INSIGHT understands that the case is in court, the elevation and installation by former governor Abiola Ajimobi have generated criticisms from far and within.
Oba Adetunji, who spoke in an interview with Sunday PUNCH on how he intends to fill the vacancies that exist in some offices in the Olubadan-in-council, explained that he is waiting for the court decisions before he fills the vacant positions.
According to him, “We cannot promote anybody to any of the positions now because of the artificial crisis they have created. There are vacant offices such as the Otun Olubadan and a few others. We cannot elevate anyone to the offices because of the case in court. We don’t want to enforce anything on them since the case is in court. We even have reasons to do it because some of the family members of the people who accepted Ajimobi’s crowns have visited the palace to declare that they didn’t approve of them taking any other crown aside from the Olubadan’s. But we won’t do it because we want to obey the law.”
But the monarch however gave a condition for them to be allowed back into his Popoyemoja Palace. “Yes, I will welcome them but they must be ready to remove their crowns. The condition is for them to remove their crowns. In Yorubaland, there is an adage that says, ‘You cannot have two kings in the palace; the chiefs can be many’. It is also said that people know the king by his crown and the chiefs by their beads.”
