A 40-year old businessman, Mr. Osunkile Gbenga Taiwo, has announced his intention to contest the governorship election in Osun come 2022.
Osunkile, who made this known on Friday when he visited his ward 1, Osu, Atakumosa West local government, said he has decided to join the race because his state is not developing as it should despite the available resources.
According to the youthful Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain who was received by tumultuous party faithful and kinsmen, “I cannot no longer stay in my comfort zone and watch as things deteriorate in my home state. I may be living well but that will amount to selfishness if I don’t show concern about the plight of my people. Every time, I have been inundated by calls by the people about how people have continued to live in abject poverty, with no end in sight.
“This is a rescue mission. I am not contesting because I am youthful, I am in the race because I believe I have what it takes to bring about the needed change. I don’t have any other state to call mine. What we have, to some extent, will help in lifting our people out of hunger and poverty. We only need leaders who are visionary. Over the years, I have noticed that successive administrations aren’t seeing this. That is one of the reasons I have decided to come rescue our people,” he added.
Saying that his manifesto and other programmes for the people would be unveiled in few months time, he revealed that he would begin his local government tours in few weeks time too. “I am prepared to give our people new lease of life. So, I am not leaving any stone unturned in this direction. I will fully launch my New Era movement soon.”
Party, community and religious leaders who spoke at the event, commended Osunkile for what they called his courage to join the race. They promised to support in any way they are capable.
