Oseni Convoy Attack: Sanusi Calls For Probe, Urges Oyo Residents Against Retaliation
The Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has called for an urgent and transparent investigation into the reported attack on the convoy of Hon. Remi Oseni in the Agbaje-Ijokodo area of Ibadan.
Sanusi, in a statement on Wednesday, said his thoughts were with Oseni, his family, campaign team and others reportedly caught in the incident, adding that the reported gunfire targeting vehicles in the convoy was disturbing.
He, however, said he was grateful that, according to the account received, no life was lost in the incident.
Sanusi urged political actors and their supporters to reject violence, stressing that no political ambition or election was worth the loss of innocent lives.
He also appealed to residents across Oyo South and the state not to allow fear or political intimidation to prevent them from exercising their constitutional rights.
“Do not allow fear to silence your voice. Do not allow threats to deprive you of your constitutional rights. Do not allow political intimidation to destroy the peaceful coexistence for which Ibadanland is respected,” he said.
The Ibadan traditional title holder called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and other relevant security agencies to investigate the reported attack urgently, independently and transparently.
He said anyone found to have been involved in the incident, including political operatives, government agents or their sponsors, should face the full consequences of the law, irrespective of their political affiliation or position.
Sanusi also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as President and Commander-in-Chief, to ensure that federal security agencies provide equal and effective protection to all law-abiding political participants in Oyo State.
He stressed that political disagreements should not become an excuse for physical attacks, saying every Nigerian should be free to campaign, assemble, express opinions and participate in elections without fear.
Sanusi urged residents not to retaliate or circulate unverified accusations, advising them instead to report threats, preserve evidence and cooperate with lawful investigations.
He appealed for calm across Oyo State, saying the people’s commitment to peace must remain stronger than political rivalry and that respect for human life must take precedence over political power.
