Ogunwuyi’s Exit Expected, His Supporters Won’t Follow Him — APM Deputy Gov Candidate Welcomes Wolekanle Appointment
The 2027 deputy governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, has described Segun Ogunwuyi’s resignation as Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde as expected.
Salawu, in a Facebook post on Monday, also welcomed the appointment of Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, as Ogunwuyi’s replacement.
“Ogunwuyi’s exit was expected, and most of his associates are staying behind. Wolekanle replacing him as the new Chief of Staff is a positive development,” he wrote.
The APM deputy governorship candidate urged his supporters to look beyond the change in the governor’s office, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects in the next election.
“I urge our people to see the bigger picture and realize that we are winning the next election. APM is our party, top to bottom,” Salawu added.
OYOINSIGHT.com had reported that Ogunwuyi resigned on Monday, October 12, while Makinde subsequently announced Wolekanle’s appointment as the new Chief of Staff.
The development has also drawn attention to the Ogbomoso connections of the three men. Wolekanle and Ogunwuyi are from Ogbomoso, where Ogunwuyi previously represented Ogbomoso North/South and Oriire Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Salawu, who holds the traditional title of Babalaje of Ogbomosoland, is also associated with the town.
Salawu is the running mate to Bimbo Adekanmbi, the APM governorship candidate in Oyo State for the 2027 election.
