The governorship candidate of the New Progressive Movement (NPM), Lt. Colonel Feyisayo Ladoye (rtd), has dropped his ambition to back the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Seyi Makinde, urging his supporters across the state, especially the people of Ogbomoso, to vote for the PDP in Saturday’s governorship election.
Ladoye, who is of Ogbomoso extraction, said that he dropped his ambition to back Makinde in order to prove to the well-meaning people of Oyo State who had put their hope in a coalition to end the bad governance of the All Progressives Congress (APC), that “Ogbomoso people are not betrayers and that true change is possible.”
He dispelled the idea that Ogbomoso people were in the pocket of one politician, noting that as an Ogbomoso son, he was fully aware that “our people are independent-minded, ever-ready to support good causes and they will not be treated like commodities,” urging them to support Makinde, who he said “has good intentions for the zone and the state.”
Explaining further on why he chose to back PDP candidate, Ladoye maintained that he discovered that Makinde had the best approach to handling the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), which is the economic base of Ogbomoso, adding that other programmes highlighted by Makinde for the development of Oyo State, as contained in his “Oyo State Road Map for Accelerated Development,” were also in tandem with the core values of NPM.
He said: “My party, the NPM has the vision to build a glorious future for Nigeria by harnessing our enormous potential for the institutionalisation of a new social and economic order, which is anchored on purposeful leadership and I have seen that the vision of the PDP candidate for Oyo State are along this line. This is one of the reasons I have chosen to drop my ambition to support him.
“Secondly, I have seen the sudden gang-up against the good people of Oyo State. I have seen the circling of political hawks over the state, as external forces dabble in the state’s affairs with a view to installing their acolyte. Therefore, I recognise that all well-meaning politicians and people of the state should resist such conspiracy by coming together. This is why I am backing Seyi Makinde and calling on my supporters and other smaller political parties to line behind this movement to liberate Oyo State.”
