Nigeria/Ghana World Cup Qualifying Match: Dare Set Up 8-man Committee To Audit Vandalization

    Following the disruption and vandalization of infrastructure and facilities at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Tuesday 29th March, 2022, during the Nigeria vs Ghana World Qualifying match, the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, has constituted an eight-man comnittee to audit the ugly incident.

    In a memo entitled: “Audit Conmittee on Vandalized Items in the aftermath of Nigeria vs. Ghana World Cup Qualifier”, dated March 30, 2022, signed by Ismaila Abubakar (Permanent Secretary of the Ministry), the Minister directed that “a committee be constituted to carry out facility audit of all aspects of stadium infrastructure vandalized/ destroyed following the aftermath of the Nigeria vs. Ghana World Qualifying match”.

    The eight-man committee which has as its Chairman, Mr Segun Oke (Director Procurement) and Biagboron A. Stephen as Secretary, has also the following: Mr Raji (Director General Services) as Deputy Chairman, Mr Abiodun Owoborode (SA-HM Policy), and Alanamu (Deputy Director, Facilities).

    Others include: Abumere S. Akindenor (Ag. Special Duties), Babakobi M. Olatunji (SA Special Project-PS), and Amechi Akawo TA-Sports-PS.

    According to the Minister, the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the committee include: to “carry out facility audit of all aspects of stadium infrastructure vandalized/destroyed after the match; highlight cost implication for replacement/ repairs of identified affected facilities; review the security lapses and recommend solutions to forestall future breaches; and to identify lapses in the areas of ticket insurance, and suggest suitable arrangement and proper coordination in the future”.

    According to the memo, the committee is expected “to submit report of its findings on or before April 3, 2022”.
