The chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission, Professor Adeolu Akande has mourned the exit of a former Executive Chairman of the Shooting Star Sports club of Ibadan, Alhaji Gbolagade Busari.
OYOINSIGHT reported that Buso, a renowned journalist, died on Monday.
In a tribute made available to newsmen, the NCC chairman described the late Buso, as he is widely known, as a man of peace.
His statement read: “Gbolagade Busari, the man mostly known as Buso ,went the way of all mortals this morning. It is a personal loss to many us who knew him. I only knew of Buso by reputation while he worked as a sports journalist with the defunct Sketch newspapers before his sujourn in the United States of America. My interaction with him was when we both served in the government of Senator Abiola Ajimobi. He was Special Adviser on Information. Buso was a man of peace. While many in his shoes had a running battle with the commissioners with whom they shared same portfolio, Buso was best of friends with his commissioner and they worked like siesmese twins.
“I had the privilege of working with him in several committees particularly those saddled with the responsibility of handling the communication content of many initiatives of the government. He was dutiful. I cannot recollect one instance when he was angry. He always had this smile etched on his chubby face.He liked happy company and was at home with lively jokes.
“He was honest and frank. I recollect one instance when many commissioners and advisers serenated the governor with tales of how everywhere they went, people celebrated the governor as the best thing to happen to Oyo State. “Excellency, that is not my own experience o”,i remenber vividly because the silence that greeted Buso’s discomforting intervention was ominous. .”People are complaining about many of our projects and we need to sit up”, he volunteered to the consternation of many of the officials present. “How come that it is where they abuse us that you always go”, the governor jokularly replied to douse the tension that had suddenly engulfed the arena. That is vintage Buso. Always calling a spade a spade.
“There was no dull moment with him and even when we were confronted with situations that tested the patience of all, Buso was always calm, throwing banters to ease difficult situations.
“When the governor dissolved the cabinet in 2013 and i seized to be a member of the government, many of the colleagues with whom i thought i shared fratenal friendship in the government kept a safe distance. Not so with Buso. He would call and visit and encourage me. His kind words were like sooting balm in those days of long knives. Buso was a good man.
“May God console his wife, children, family, friends and numerous dependants. May his beautiful soul find peace in the bossom of the lord.”
