NACOMYO Advises PFN: Don’t Be Afraid Of Sharia, It’s Always Been With Us

The latest attempt by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to scuttle the Shariah train in the South-West Nigeria has been described as parochial, uncharitable, illogical and offensive to the spirit of good neighbourliness.

The National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations (NACOMYO) National headquarters made this remark in its reaction to the statement credited to Bishop Francis Wale Oke, PFN President.

The statement was signed by Mallam Sani Suleiman Maigoro and Alhaji Mas’ud Akintola, the National President and National Secretary General respectively.

“We obviously know the reasons for the Bishop’s Shariaphobic stance, however we want to allay his fears that what we are agitating for now is giving effect to what we have been living with since ages i.e. family inheritance, civil matters amongst Muslims, marriage contracts etc and not the criminal aspect which requires applying sanctions on the offenders.”

The public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution provides a platform for the varying interest groups to ventilate their opinions, why would PFN, instead of demanding for Canon law, urge the Senate not to listen to the Muslims?

We however wish to caution them to desist from their Islamophobic tendencies as several attempts in the past have failed and, like others, this one is dead on arrival as we will resist it with the last pant of blood in our veins.
