The chairman of the selection committee for the Extended Special Work Programme, ESWP, of the Federal Government has stated that those who have benefitted from the N-Power programme of the Muhammadu Buhari led government will not be considered for the programme that is meant to recruit 1,000 itinerant workers from each of the 774 local government areas across the country.
Salami, who was caretaker chairman of Akinyele local government, said anyone who has been paid under the N-POWER scheme will not be paid under the ESW programme because the account that will be used for payment will be linked with Bank Verification Number (BVN) and will be thoroughly verified by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He spoke yesterday on a popular political programme BOTTOMLINE on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan, monitored by OYOINSIGHT.COM.
He affirmed that 100 slots of the 1,000 in each local government areas in Oyo State have been conceded to the Governors, Senators, House of Reps Members, Ministers and others and that accounts for the 10 percent given to the politicians.
In Oyo State, Salami said, one paramount Ruler was picked in each of the three senatorial districts to serve in the selection committee.
According to him “In Oyo south senatorial district, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji was picked, in Oyo central, His Imperial Majesty, Alaafin of Oyo was picked while for Oyo North, it is the Soun of Ogbomosoland that was picked.”
He also listed religious leaders as members of the committee. With the calibre of personalities in the committee, he said there cannot be any foul play or favouritism.
On what qualifies one to apply for this job, the former, he explained that anyone can apply irrespective of age and qualification inasmuch as such applicant can carry out the job.
Upon their recruitment, Salami said, they will be deployed to diffferent places of work.
Speaking further, he said already, some corporate organisations have started requesting for this itinerant workers”.
He added that based on their academic qualifications, supervisors will be selected from among these applicants, stressing, however, that they will be paid the same amount, a sum of N20,000 at the end of the month.
These applicants, he said, will be employed for just three months and that its a form of palliative to cushion the negative impact of COVID-19 on the less-privileged across the country
